Raccoon Poop is Dangerous

Raccoons host intestinal parasites called Baylisascris Procyonis. Raccoon Roundworm does not affect raccoons. It is however potentially harmful to humans and other species like dogs and other pets. Avoid contact with raccoons and their feces. Roundworm eggs are passed in the feces of affected raccoons and are not visible to the naked eye. Raccoon roundworm eggs can become airborne when dry. Once raccoon roundworm eggs pass through the intestines they hatch and the larva penetrates the lining of the intestines and gets moves around in the body of the host.

Raccoons Don't Flush

Raccoons tend to pick a specific spot to use as a latrine. They are very clean animals and they will keep going to the bathroom in a spot away from where they sleep and eat. Once they identify the area and begin using it they will continue using it if left uninterrupted. They like to deposit their feces in one specific spot over and over. A raccoon latrine can be on a roof, on a deck, on your lawn, in your attic or garage. Thankfully for you, there are ways to stop them from pooping in the same spot. The first step is cleaning the mess up.

What Does Raccoon Poop Look Like?

Raccoon poop looks a lot like dog poop. Droppings are light to dark brown, 2 to 3 inches in length, and blunt at the ends. The only differentiator between a raccoon’s droppings and a dog’s is the presence of undigested berries within the poop. Raccoon poop is also usually found in piles, known as latrines. Latrines are usually found on raised surfaces, such as the top of a roof or the base of a tree. Latrines may also be found in attics.
